Hello Dear Substack,

In the interests of full disclosure, as I sit on a too warm sofa with a cushion between my lap and my burning like fire laptop I am a little thick headed - this has been an intense week! After a long period of relative quiet I have been flat out, as temperatures here in the South East of England have soared. This means that I have been starting work very early in the mornings and working until I can bear the heat no more!

And so, forgive me if this is a little rambling and incoherent…!

It makes me very happy to have finally managed to pull together a series of recipes previously published on here and put them into a PDF booklet for your optimum convenience, all under the title Making Summer Simple. I have been wanting to do this for a while and plan to do it seasonally. The booklet begins with an edited version of my Spices Part 4 : Spiced Salads guide, folloed by 17 recipes which come under the chapter headings: Salad Dressings; Pastes, Dips & Purées: Dukkahs, Salts & Sprinkles.

As previously explained, I took down the paywall that had limited access to some of my output some moths back leaving an option to become a paid subscriber if you have the means and would like to support my work. Back in April I produced the first edition of Hope’s Kitchen the Fanzine which all paid subscribers received a copy of. Issue 2 is due out later in the Summer with a loose working theme of Happiness - all existing paid subscribers will again receive a copy through the mail with the remainder being made available for sale online. These PDF recipe booklets will function in the same way, only virtually. Paid subscribers will find the PDF at the bottom of this post behind a paywall. Free subscribers or anyone else reading this can become a paid subscriber (which you have to do on a browser, annoyingly not possible via the app) by clicking on the button below. Alternatively you can order a copy online via this link.

If you order online you will see that there are 3 options of payment amount - £5, £10 or £20. Please pay as you can and as you feel - I am promoting this publication as a mini crowdfunder to help me navigate this moment in business as I steer towards product, writing and broadcasting (I have a micro podcast idea I really want to get online). Very excitingly my spices are going to be stocked in Seasons here in Lewes and I will be doing a ‘meet the maker day’ on July 19th - it would be lovely to see you if you’re in the area! I am also taking my spices to the Newick Food Fair for the first time next Sunday June 29th, plus Florence Road Market on Saturday June 28th. I am also back at the Lewes Friday Food Market once a month on the first Friday - next one will be on July 4th - please do pop by if you are local, it’s always great to see people, it’s one of the things that I have missed the most since stopping markets a while ago, it is really lovely to be back.

Thank you for reading, happy cooking and solstice love and blessings to you all.

Chloe x
